SmartCleanup

Privacy policy

Last updated: October 9, 2026

SmartCleanup works on your phone and never uploads your photos. This page explains which permissions it needs, what it stores and where.

1. In short

SmartCleanup looks at your photos on your phone. Your photos, videos and files are never uploaded. We don't run any server that receives data from the app.

There's no account, no advertising, and no tracking of how you use the app.

2. Permissions

iPhone and iPad

  • Photo access: to find duplicates and extra shots. You can allow only selected photos.
  • Add photos: only used when you compress a video or convert a Live Photo, to save the new version.

Android

  • Photos and videos: to find photos and delete the ones you choose.
  • Folders you pick: only when you use "Scan a folder…", to find duplicate and large files in that folder. The app never asks for access to all files.
  • Usage access (optional): only to show which apps use the most cache.

The app does not ask for your location, contacts, microphone, camera, messages or notifications.

3. What the app stores, and where

  • Your photos, videos and files

    Stays on your phone

They stay on your phone. The app only reads them, and only deletes what you choose.

  • Analysis results

    Stays on your phone

Things like which photos look alike and which one is sharper. Stored in the app, on your phone.

  • Text on screenshots

    Stays on your phone

Read to tell one-time codes apart from banking screens or receipts. Stored in the app, on your phone.

  • Cleanup history and settings

    Stays on your phone

When you cleaned up, how many items, how much space, and your preferences. Stored in the app, on your phone.

  • Google ML Kit usage statistics (Android)

    Sent outsideto Google, no photos

The Android app uses Google's ML Kit to detect faces, text and QR codes on your phone. ML Kit sends Google statistics about how it's running, but never your photos or what's in them.

Uninstalling the app deletes all of its data. Your photos are not affected.

4. When the app uses the internet

Google ML Kit (Android): as noted above, this library may send Google statistics about how it's running. Your photos are never included, and we don't receive these statistics. On iPhone and iPad, the app uses Apple's built-in tools and nothing like this is sent.

Buying Pro: purchases are handled by the App Store or Google Play. The app only asks the store which plan you've bought, to unlock features. We never receive your payment details.

iCloud photos (iPhone, iPad): photos stored only in iCloud are analyzed using the thumbnails already on your phone. If you turn on original downloads in the app's Settings, your phone downloads them from your own iCloud, just like opening them in the Photos app.

5. Deleting photos

The app only deletes photos, videos and files you have selected and confirmed. On iPhone and Android 11 or later, deleted photos can be recovered for 30 days. On Android 10 or earlier, and for items in Files, deletion is permanent.

6. Deleting your data

We don't keep any of your data, so there's nothing to request. Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored on your phone.

7. Children

The app doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.

8. Changes to this policy

If the way the app handles data changes, we'll update this page before releasing the new version. The date at the top shows the latest update.
